West Elementary is more than 70 years old, which means students and staff face facility challenges that can make learning difficult.

The list of needs that exist today at West includes:

➡️Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning upgrades
➡️Updates to classrooms, including flooring, fixtures, and furniture
➡️Exterior improvements, such as new windows, doors, siding, and gutters
➡️Improvements to safety systems, fire alarms, the camera system, and the public address system
➡️Lack of adequate classroom and storage space
➡️Parking lot improvements to enhance traffic safety
➡️Replacement of the portable building used for music education that was placed at the school in the 1970s as a temporary solution
➡️Site improvements to address drainage problems

Residents of our community will vote on a $25.62 million bond referendum on November 4, 2025. If approved by at least 60% of voters, these funds would be used to build a new elementary school and reimagine West as a childcare facility.

On Saturday, September 13, seven students competed in livestock judging at the Clay County Fair. 🐖

They gained valuable experience, learned more about the judging process, and represented our school well. Great job, students!

The #13 ranked E-Hawks host South Central Calhoun and West Bend-Mallard in a Twin Lakes Conference triangular. Matches start at 5:00 PM.

In November 2024, the proposed bond issue to construct a new school to replace West Elementary fell short of the 60% approval needed to pass.

Following that outcome, the district gathered feedback about the bond with a community survey. Among the reasons expressed by some residents about the bond was the proposed tax impact of $2.54 per $1,000 of taxable property value.

On November 4, 2025, ECSD residents will vote on a new bond referendum with a reduced tax impact of $1.59 per $1,000.

➡️ For a home worth $250,000, this would amount to an increase of approximately $15.08 per month.

➡️ Based on the average per-acre value of agricultural property in Palo Alto County, the annual tax impact would be approximately $2.06 per acre.
