While earning her bachelor’s degree in Child Development at Minnesota State University, Mankato, Hannah worked alongside Dr. Heather Von Bank on research exploring the importance of recess and break time for Middle School students. Their work included hearing directly from students about their experiences and what they wanted and needed from break time at school.
That undergraduate research went on to reach audiences far beyond the classroom. Hannah presented at the Minnesota State University Research Symposium, where she received an Outstanding Presenter Award, and later traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, to present at the US Play Coalition National Conference on the Value of Play. The research was also shared internationally in Scotland.
Now, Hannah’s work has reached another exciting milestone. The research is quoted and credited throughout the new book, "Why Recess Matters: The Importance of Unstructured Play and How to Fight for It," which will be released on August 25.
Congratulations to Hannah on seeing her undergraduate research become part of a resource for families, educators, and schools! 📚
Judge's certification and training will be held Wednesday evening, September 2, 2026 @ 7:00 PM.
Certification and Re-Certification session will last an hour and a half.
Please arrive 10 minutes early.
Bring a writing utensil and $10.00 for the certification fee.

Dawson is a 2022 graduate of Emmetsburg High School and recently earned his degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa. He is excited to return to the community he calls home and looks forward to giving back to the place where he made so many memories with his family, friends, and coworkers.
Outside of school, Dawson enjoys spending time with family and friends, and following sports whenever he can.

She is originally from Rockwell City, graduated from South Central Calhoun and Buena Vista University, and recently made Emmetsburg her home.
Outside the classroom, she enjoys spending time at the lake with her dog, traveling to see family, and cheering on the Hawkeyes. She can't wait to meet her students this year! 💛

As I work through clearing the concussion waivers and physicals today— one last time, before high school practices begin on Monday—I am also removing duplicate documents and extra copies that are no longer needed.
You may receive a notification from Bound indicating that a document has been deleted. Please know this is simply part of that cleanup process and only the unnecessary duplicates are being removed.
If I need any document re‑uploaded, you will receive an email directly from me, dhewitt@e-hawks.org, not from Bound.
Also keep in mind that every student who plans to participate in any activities at Emmetsburg Middle School or Emmetsburg High School must complete the full registration process on Bound. Students will NOT be allowed to participate in practices or games until this registration is complete with the correct and appropriately signed documents. Directions and information has been shared multiple times on the District's Site and through the District's Facebook page fpr how to complete that registration.
