West Elementary School has successfully educated students for 70 years, but the school presents a long list off facility challenges that include:
➡️Outdated heating systems and window air conditioners
➡️Dated and damaged floors, fixtures, and furnishings
➡️Aging windows prone to leaks with many lacking screens
➡️Old plumbing and hardware that’s difficult to repair
➡️Narrow hallways and doorways that don’t meet modern standards
➡️Poor configurations and insufficient storage
➡️Music education taught in a portable building placed in the 1970s as a “temporary” solution
There are also issues related to student safety, parking, and site drainage. Having to make such improvements while students are attending West would also cause dramatic interruptions to learning.
On Tuesday, November 5, ECSD voters will consider a $29.75 million bond referendum that would provide funds to construct a new elementary school and provide our youngest learners with more resources and opportunities.

Today is National Teacher Assistants’ Day! 🙌
We want to thank those who help out our teachers and provide support to students. We appreciate all you do!

The Volleyball game at East Sac, tonight, is partially cashless. Preourchase tickets on Bound or use cash. There will NOT be a card reader at the card.

Registered voters who reside in the Emmetsburg Community School District can request a mailed absentee ballot for the November 5 election from the Palo Alto County Auditor’s Office.
On the ballot is a bond referendum for ECSD. More voting information and the details about how an approved bond would support our youngest students is available at https://www.emmetsburgbond.org.

We all have an important role to play when it comes to school safety! Remember, if you see something, say something.

Compared to elementary schools throughout our region, West Elementary has the highest number of students per acre attending a single-story building.
According to CMBA Architects, West has an average of 85.56 students per acre. The only elementary schools with a higher average are the two-story facilities in Pocahontas (114.79) and Okoboji (92).
Alta Elementary (72.86), Demoney Elementary in Estherville (58.43), Storm Lake Elementary (56.61) and Bryant Elementary in Algona (41.30) all have lower averages than West. The number of students per acre recommended in the state school building handbook is 37.51.
