DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY EMMETSBURG COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: 

The Technology Director is responsible for the maintenance and implementation of technology. The technology coordinator will be responsible for the management of the network system, including hardware and software and personal computers in the district.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS: 

Post high school education with vocational or college level degree in network administrator or related field.  Technical certifications are highly desirable.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 5 years of experience managing an enterprise network environment (VLAN, VoIP, QoS)

  • Broad knowledge and experience with Windows OS, VMware, Google Apps for Education, and Chromebook management/Google Workspace for Education, SIS, LMS, and app support.  

  • Experience and knowledge of Microsoft Networking required (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, RADIUS)

  • Experience with network capacity planning, security principles, and network management best practices

  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and resolve network and other technical related problems

  • Ability to offer vision and leadership to the technology team

  • Experience with firewalls/filtering platforms

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, the Technology Director performs the following responsibilities within the overarching framework of the Emmetsburg Community School District mission and vision.

Instructional Technology: 

  • Ensures instructional innovation focused on continuous improvement of digital learning;

  • Ensures technology resources are available to all students 

  • Keeps apprised of developments in educational technology

Network Operations: 

  • Supervises the coordination, implementation, and maintenance of the district’s network;

  • Establishes processes to ensure prompt and high-quality service support to the district;

  • Consults with administration, staff, and students to assess computing needs and system requirements;

  • Supervises and maintains the district’s website and email management system

Administrative Support: 

  • Supports the technology needs of the district’s administration team;

  • Directs the assembly of new equipment and establishes preventative maintenance procedures;

  • Coordinates license agreements for software purchases;

  • Maintains an inventory of the district’s technology hardware and software

Cyber Security:

  • Establishes internet content filtering in accordance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA);

  • Promotes best practices in data security;

  • Ensures vendors comply with district data security requirements;

  • Identifies potential security threats;

  • Recommends improvements to the district technology policies and procedures

User Support

  • Performs first-level support for technology hardware and software in schools and offices.

  • Performs routine desktop equipment maintenance

            Installing, maintaining, and upgrading workstation or server software

Analyzing and resolving basic desktop application problems

Installing computer peripherals

  • Performs second-level support for technology hardware and software in schools and offices.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary and benefits are to be determined by the board

EVALUATION:

The Technology Director will be evaluated by the Superintendent at least annually in accordance with the law, board policy, and the preceding job description.
