We are in unique and interesting times.  We will be challenged to think creatively and step up in ways we have never been in the past.  I am so inspired by the ideas that have already surfaced from our teachers and staff. In trying times, our true character will be on display and I am excited to say that ECSD will be a shining light of inspiration and hope for our students, families, and community.  We are committed to representing the best in us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

School Closure:

  • Per the Governor’s order, schools will remain closed through April 30, 2020.

  • The second piece of important information was that schools that do not offer Continuous Learning Opportunities will be required to make-up time missed from April 13th to April 30th.

Continuous Learning Opportunities Overview

Administrators and Instructional Coaches met Friday, April 3, 2020, to structure our plan.  We have developed an initial structure. We must submit our plan for Continuous Learning Opportunities by April 10th.  I cannot tell you how impressed I was by the leadership team that met on Friday. They were simply amazing.

We have three options:

  • Continue to offer resources but do not do more.

    • Per DE Guidance the days from April 13th to April 30th would need to be made up.

  • Voluntary

    • We would increase contact with students and offer a more structured learning plan.  However, participation by students would be voluntary.  As long as we meet the requirement in the DE Guidance, we would not have to make up days missed from April 13th to April 30th.

  • Required

    • Students would be required to participate and grading of work would take place.

The Leadership Team reached a unanimous consensus on the following:

  • April 13th through April 30th, ECSD will conduct Voluntary Continuous Learning Opportunities for students.  These will not be graded.

    • Grades 3-12 will utilize Google Classroom to do weekly themed projects that are multidisciplinary.

      • Each grade will work to develop the week’s project and contribute subject area related content.

      • This constitutes three weekly projects during the month of April

    • Grade PK-2 will utilize Summer Book and Activity Bundles

      • Teachers will post class routine videos for the kids to do at home.

    • Building Leadership began planning sessions with more specific information starting on yesterday.

Important Parent/Student Information on ECSD Continuous Learning Opportunities.

Grades 3-12

  • The decision to go with weekly projects that contain related content from all subject areas was made to create the most engaging work possible.  Our experience has been that project-based learning can produce more student engagement depending on the topic. We will work hard to create interesting and relevant multidisciplinary weekly projects.

  • We will be using grade-level Google Classrooms to present and house the weekly projects.  Students are somewhat familiar with this format and it will allow them to communicate with each other and with their teachers through Hangouts, Emails, and or Chats.

  • Internet Access will be necessary to access Google Classroom.  If you have home internet access or hotspots on your cell phone, you should be able to access the Google Classroom.  In addition, we will have internet access in the parking lots at the High School and at West Elementary.

  • We are also working diligently on access possibilities for students.  A list of providers and local access points will be published on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.  Several providers are offering very low rate access through the COVID-19 Crisis.

  • We will work to provide other Continuous Learning Opportunities should internet access not be an option.

  • If you are concerned about your ability to provide internet access to your student please email me at

  • Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you with more specific information this week.

Grades PK-2

  • West Elementary had purchased Summer Book /Activity Bundles to send home with students over the Summer.  Those bundles will now be distributed to all families PK-4. during the scheduled Student Personal Item pick up this week.  These Bundles contain grade-level books and activities for students.

  • Teachers will utilize Remind to provide activities for students.

  • Teachers will utilize Remind and YouTube to post videos of classroom and or instructional routines students can do at home.

  • We will work to provide other Continuous Learning Opportunities should internet access not be an option.

  • If you are concerned about your ability to provide internet access to your student please email me at

  • Your child’s teacher will be reaching out to you with more specific information this week.

Laptop/Chromebook/Instructional Material Pick-Up

  • ECSD will utilize the same system for parents signing up for Parent-Teacher Conferences to have Students/Parents reserve a time to pick up Laptop/Chromebook/Instructional Materials.  If you have not signed up please go to

  • We will follow all State and Federal Rules for Social Distancing.

    • Only those who have signed up for time will be allowed to enter building

    • You will only be allowed in the building during the time you signed up for.

    • Access for no more than 4 at any one time will be allowed.

    • Only one family member or student will be allowed to enter the building.  We ask that a parent enters the building at West.

    • If you have any of the following, please do not come to the building and contact your medical provider.

      • Fever

      • Cough

      • Trouble Breathing

    • All participants should remain at least six feet apart.

    • We encourage the use of homemade face masks when in the building.  These masks will reduce the chance that someone will transmit the virus to someone else.

    • Disinfectant wipes will be at the building entrance.

    • Visits will be limited to 15 minutes.

    • Middle School will utilize Door 18.

    • High School will utilize Door 4.

    • West will utilize the Main Entrance.

We need your help.  We are committed to providing a more structured learning experience as we begin our Continuous Learning Opportunities.  Parental support in helping their student(s) to understand that they need to engage in these opportunities is crucial. You will be receiving more information about the structure from your student(s) teacher(s).  Please work with your student(s) to monitor their participation in what teachers are offering them.

ECSD cannot do this alone, we need Parents to provide the structured learning time while students are at home.  We cannot make up all that we have lost, but together we can limit the impact of school closures on both the remainder of this school year and next school year.

ECSD continues to serve by providing breakfast and lunch grab and go meals to the children of our community.  In addition, we have bus drivers delivering on their country routes and to daycare centers. We will continue the program M-F 7:30-9:00 a.m. until at least Thursday, April 30, 2020.

Grab and Go Meal Pick-Up Procedures

  • Please enter the South Parking Lot Driveway and proceed North down the circle drive to the Middle School Entrance.

  • Let us know how many meals by holding up the correct number of fingers.

  • We will deposit the lunches in the bin on the table by the steps.  Please remain in your vehicle.

  • Once the worker has gone back to the building, exit your vehicle and grab your meals.

  • Exit onto King St. from the Circle Drive.

We will not be serving meals this Friday (Good Friday).  Instead, we will be providing Friday’s meals with Thursday’s meals.

Thank you for your understanding and patience through these unique challenges for our School and Community.
