EMMETSBURG, IA — The Emmetsburg Community School District School Board has named Cory Jenness as the district’s next superintendent.

Jenness is the current elementary principal and curriculum director in the Sibley-Ocheyedan Community School District, where he has worked to develop teachers in leadership roles, managed multiple budgets, maintained high expectations for student performance, and promoted a shared vision for learning in the community. He has also focused on creating a nurturing educational environment while ensuring the school’s curriculum is aligned with state and federal standards.

Additionally, Jenness has experience as an assistant football coach and assistant basketball coach. He began his career in education as an elementary school teacher in Sioux City, Iowa.

Jenness holds a master’s degree in elementary administration from the University of South Dakota and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Morningside University. He also received an educational specialist certificate from the University of Iowa.

The School Board worked with Grundmeyer Leader Services to conduct the search. The process included a community-wide survey, asking district residents to provide their input on the qualities and characteristics they would like to see in the district’s next leader. The board held interviews with the four finalists on May 3.

Jenness will officially begin serving as superintendent of the Emmetsburg Community School District on July 1, 2022.
